Free-Market ideology holds that the solution to every problem in the social, economic, and political spheres is to allow markets unfettered reign so that they can solve all problems in their natural course. Including slavery, which is not nearly as efficient as “remote workforces.”
In this clip from The Yes Men: Changing The World One Prank At A Time, Hank Hardy Unruh explains why it was a mistake for the Northern States of the United States to undertake the US Civil War against the Southern secessionist states. He argues that free-market ideology would have replaced slavery with a much more efficient form of worker eventually, anyway. The US Civil war, “the bloodiest, least profitable war in US history,” could have been avoided.
